Automated OCR in Cabinet Document Management System Monday, November 16, 2015
Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is one of the most useful features of a Document Management System (DMS) because it helps users when searching for content that resides within images.

OCR software enables users when searching for any type of image because they would be able to search within the content of the image itself without having to remember the exact name of the file. The OCR technology helps to capture all eligible content within the images, being a newspaper or an article. Once the image is captured and stored within Cabinet, all text is stored within a database together with the actual image. This way all users will be able to search for the content by simply typing the word that they are looking for in the simple text search of Cabinet.

Such technology has a very high success rate in reading printed / typed content. There are occurrences that might lead to missing words such as folded corners of a paper or sticky notes that make it impossible to read the content behind.

Cabinet has an optional add-on module that allows for this automated OCR plugin. This module is only available with the PRO and ENTERPRISE versions.
